Civil society had in Korea played a significant role in the process of the dismantlement of old political authoritarianism in the 1980s. Since then, its political importance has grown. Now, the Korean civil society - Korean citizens and civil organizations - should see the issue of the increase of women's political participation as providing a ?new alternative perspective of women?to the political arena, and show its interest and practice for this issue. Especially, the mass media have to be interested in women's political participation and empowerment. The Korean civil society tries to create a public opinion for this, having effect on the mass media. Moreover, local communities, churches and universities should transform their existing closed and conventional education system into an open and innovative one, so they would open their facilities and resources to women and develop a curriculum of social education for women.

Women themselves should participate more energetically in the civil movement. Particularly, in the case of some developed countries in Europe, the peace movement and the environment movement are not just a kind of civil movement, but becoming international issues. The driving force of these kinds of movements is pure citizens' participation. Women, as main actors of these civil movements, have contributed to the enlargement of these movements into the political sphere. Like this, women in such countries play significant roles in various fields in their societies, and their roles are expected to be expanded in the future. Currently, our society shows a tendency of extreme group egoism and a trend to make light of people's life. Women's participation in society can be an answer to overcome such tendency and trend with new women's perspectives.
